At Oleston Chiropractic in Carrollwood, Dr. Carrie Oleston provides Acupuncture care for many types of health problems and concerns. Acupuncture, a component of traditional Chinese medicine over 5,000 years old, encourages the body to promote natural healing and to improve functioning. It is based on the belief that living beings have a vital energy, called "qi", that circulates through invisible energy lines (meridians) on the body, each associated with a different organ system.
What Sets Us Apart
As a holistic health practitioner, Dr. Carrie Oleston incorporates acupuncture into her treatment to help her patients get to the root cause of the problem. Like chiropractic medicine, acupuncture recognizes the dynamics between lifestyle, environment and health. It also acknowledges the centrality of the nervous system and its intimate relationship with both the structural and regulatory capacities of the body.
We understand that healthcare must be convenient in order to be effective. We are located across from Quick Lane and Tire Kingdom on Gunn Hwy. in Citrus Park, just off the Veterans Expressway and ½ mile east of the Citrus Park Mall.
How does Acupuncture work?
Just as a river provides nourishment for life on our planet, our body has channels, called meridians, through which a body energy called Qi flows as an invisible current, energizing, nourishing, and supporting every cell, tissue, muscle, organ, and gland. When Qi is balanced and flowing freely, the body's natural self-healing abilities are activated, creating internal stability, harmony, and good health.
The stresses of daily life in Carrollwood affect meridians and organs in different ways, disrupting or blocking Qi flow. If a garden hose is blocked, for example, it can't provide enough water to a plant, and eventually the plant won't be able to thrive. Likewise, a blockage in the meridians will restrict the supply of Qi needed to nourish and support the cells, tissues, muscles, organs, and glands. Such blockages can show up as signs and symptoms. Over time, the body as a whole can become weakened, and its ability to heal itself will be lessened, and it becomes vulnerable to pain, disease, and ill health.
The meridians and the energy flow are accessible through approximately 400 different acupuncture points. By inserting extremely fine needles into these points in various combinations, acupuncture practitioners help rebalance the energy flow, thus enabling the body's natural healing mechanisms to take over.

What should I expect during my Acupuncture treatment?
On your first visit to our practice in Carrollwood, we will begin by performing a thorough history, physical exam, and AcuGraph Digital Meridian Imaging examination. The AcuGraph allows us to see an objective measurement of the energy balance of each acupuncture meridian. After the results are analyzed, we will identify the problematic areas and develop an individualized treatment plan.
After the sterile needles are positioned, patients rest as the treatment take its course. Most patients describe their acupuncture treatment as a calm and relaxing experience.
